History...

Since 1973 Color by DeJonghe offers laboratory services for film production.

Initially our market was the television 16mm reversal productions used for current affairs, documentary and drama series. From 1985 on film-to-video transfer was offered with a new telecine with full scene-to-scene color correction capability. Our beginnings in the video field were 1" type C format, U-matic High-band and U-matic low-band as well as VHS and Betamax. Only VHS barely survives as a format today.

Around 1984 new 16mm color negative and positive processing and printing was introduced. With the increase in Super 16 production, around 1994 35mm capability was added as well as optical printers to permit blow-up and reductions.

Since mid-1990's our main business goal has shifted to the 35mm feature and shorts film market combined with high-end documentaries and television drama.

From 1997 on digital film scanning (up to 3K) and digital recording to 35mm and 16mm were introduced. A major step was made in October 2003 with the installation of the high-end digital grading system Baselight suitable for any format from SD video up to 4K resolution. The Truelight color calibration software matches film or video output to the images actually seen on the projection screen.

The performance of our scanner was tripled and full Cineon 10bit Log capability was added With the upgrade to the new Dalsa camera.

In December 2004 a new Lasergraphics film recorder completed the Digital Intermediate chain permitting very high quality film output from digitally graded Cineon images.
Other digital improvements include the introduction of an HD telecine in 2005 and the second generation digital grading system early 2007.
